Tabitha is a self contained Mid Side or MS microphone. She is built around three capsules: One JLI2555B for the mid microphone, and two JLI165’s for the figure of eight microphone. Self-noise measures <13dBA with a full 20Hz-20KHz frequency response. Tabitha uses the same low noise, low distortion, Texas Instruments Operational Amplifier as Samantha, Serena, and Endora. The circuit can cleanly output a voltage high enough to exceed most microphone preamps. Her internal electronics never limit your signal chain.
The Mid Side microphone technique was first described by Alan Blumlein in the 1930’s. At the time there was no equipment available to actually execute the technique. It uses two microphones, one cardioid facing front or the “Mid” microphone and one figure of eight microphone for the Side. Tabitha puts both into one microphone body, simplifying the execution of Mid Side recording.
Due to her exceptional transparency and low self noise, Tabitha is at home in the Studio on almost any source. She also makes an excellent field recording microphone. You can also create very interesting immersive microphone arrays using multiple Tabithas.
